Paths to Empowerment: A Panel about Cooperative Governance
FREE, online event
RSVP required, via Eventbrite
A panel discussion about democratically-run arts organizations with the San Francisco Mime Troupe, HMD/The Bridge Project, the Stud, and Campo Santo. Moderated by Nicole Gluckstern, theatre critic for KQED Arts, and co-curator of IncivilitySF.
Theatres and performing arts organizations are being asked to reconsider “business as usual,” as demands for equity and inclusion move to the forefront of conversation. As artists and companies consider their path forward, it’s well worth investigating the practices of arts organizations already working with cooperative and collective models. From the worker-owned San Francisco Mime Troupe and the Stud, to the collectively-run Campo Santo, to the equity-driven distributed leadership model being implemented by HMD.
Find out more about these approaches and their practitioners in a moderated panel discussion and Q & A about distributed leadership and democratic decision-making in the arts. We’ll explore the possibilities, challenges, and rewards of various models of collective and cooperative governance, and answer questions about the processes of founding or reimagining our arts organizations as democratically-run entities.
A link to the zoom room will be sent out a week prior to the event along with a packet of resources.
